Guy Fawkes night by beryl

Guy Fawkes night

Remember , remember the 5th of November . but also remember our pets and livestock who may be terrified with the increasing loud bangs .
Well said Beryl! My boys are already nervous wrecks after fireworks for the last two weeks! I wish they would ban selling them and only have organised displays - on the night!

Thankfully we don't celebrate Guy Fawkes night here.

@pamknowler - Well said Pam, Alfie used to be a dribbling quivering wreck but now approaching his 14th year and perhaps his hearing not so good , always our company and the TV quite loud , he manages better on these nights .

Here you can buy thunder jackets for your dogs, they help during thunderstorms, I’m sure they would help with fireworks. We are allowed fireworks on July 4th, America’s Independence Day, and New Years. Most of the time personal fireworks are banned because of the dry landscape though.

I hate fireworks because of the frightened pets animals and birds why do they all have to have a loud bang its like a war zone and it goes on for weeks before and after.

Never heard of this holiday! Good idea to be considerate to people and animals

A part of the history of England. Didn't know the exact date though. Animals canbe very scared from the sound of exploding fireworks.

Yes it is important that people remember that animals don't like the huge bangs and fireworks seem to be so much louder these days

Great shot and good information.

We have the issue on the 4th of July. Many of my friends have to get tranquilizers for their pets that week. There is also the fire danger with drought here.

Great capture

I feel terrible for the poor creatures who are frightened by the fireworks. Good reminder.

Good sign, hope people take heed

yeah and wildlife ...

I hope Alfie has his ears covered Beryl.....the trouble is when the date lands on a weekday you can expect bangs anytime over a week. I’m feeling money could be spent on better things these days!

Its still a very popular day here- we have a controlled park where people can gather and watch and its a bit further out of town so animals can't hear! I frankly think its a waste of money!

It's about time something was done regarding the very loud explosions these so called fire work make. I personally don't have any pets, but the explosions make me jump, so I feel for the domestic and wild animals. Shame on the people that buy them, and set a bad example to the young.

@gamelee - hear hear Lee

@happypat Alfie would be absolutely terrified when he was young - he would shake shiver dribble and didn't know what to do with himself - I got him some medication from the vet - but it made no difference ! Now he is nearly 14 yrs old I do not think his hearing is so good , and having us there with him sitting close to G on the settee , with the tv on quite loud - it masks a lot for him

Fireworks are much louder these days

That is a good reminder. Some animals are freaked out by fireworks. People need to heed the sign.

I hope your lovely dogs survived the evening? I was out this evening and on the way home I listened to classic fm. Lots of people phoned in to say their pets were calmer when listing to classical music!

good shout beryl , Ruby is really good as firework bangs don;t bother her !
November 6th, 2019
We face the same problem here on the 4th of July celebrations. I hope it wasn't too hard on yours!

Interesting to learn about your celebration and read the comments.

Good sign. I stayed in with my cats, put the TV on and they were fine. I pity the poor wild animals and the cats that get put out for the night.
November 6th, 2019
I wish people would, especially when it goes on for nights on end. Daisy spends the nights hiding under the sofa

Luckily Charlie is stone deaf, so no probs, although he never bothered anyway!
