Autumn mums ! by beryl

Autumn mums !

Dull damp weather , and feeling fed-up !! So decided to go out for lunch and the local Garden Centre . The whole centre was geared for Christmas -- I would have never said this before - but the early Christmas displays cheered me up , bought some Christmas Cards . and came home determined to make a Christmas Cake again this year - Earlier I had said that I would not bother to make a Christmas Cake this year -- but old traditions and home baking have won !! When I was teaching - I always made my Christmas Cakes at the school's half term holidays - I carried on with the tradition after retiring and this year will be no difference ! Tomorrow I shall go out to purchase the necessary ingredients that I haven't got at home !In the afternoon I shall prepare the tin , weigh all the ingredients and put the fruit to soak overnight in brandy ( or some spirits !) Then the following day shall make and bake the cake . Amazing how a simple tradition can put a spring in my step as I look forward to making the cake !
Lovely capture, colors

A beautiful display of flowers and your plans for baking your Christmas cake sound delicious.... especially the ‘soaking overnight in brandy!’ Yum!

Lovely to see these cheerful flowers. I absolutely agree about baking traditions. I was the same, half term holiday from school was the only time I could fit in making the Christmas cake. I can't do mine now for a few days, it will have wait until next week

This is a lovely capture of these beautiful chrysanthemums.
I shall look forward to seeing a photo of your cake. I too have been undecided as to whether or not to make a Christmas cake this year and today I decided I would. I shall put the ingredients I need on next week’s Tesco order.

A pretty potful of flowers Beryl.I always think the garden centre can lift the spirits especially if they have new stock in to browse over after being stuck at home.Your Christmas cake tradition is a reminder that I need to start getting organised. Fav

Beautiful cheerful shot, and I love your sentiments about the Christmas Cake. I think we all need some extra cheer this year! Tomorrow I'm baking pumpkin cookies for my young neighbors.

I know just how you feel Beryl. Weather miserable, news on the box just as bad. We need something to cheer us up. Your Christmas cake sounds like the perfect solution.

Fav. How beautiful! They are such prolific bloomers. Christine wants to skip Christmas at home (or out of home) because of Covid19. She may change her
mind when we are closer to the day.
