Some "Prickly friends" , part of a collection at the Garden centre . I have always been fascinated with cacti and as a teenager before leaving home for Uni. I had quite a collection housed in my father's greenhouse , and would spend hours with my little scalpel knife cutting and grafting a piece of one variety on another .encouraged by my dad who would graft fruit trees in the garden !
I did my shopping for my Christmas Cake ingredients this morning - then met a couple of friends for lunch The last chance before we move from level one to level two and stricter rules re the Covid on Saturday .I had intended to weigh out the ingredients for my cake this afternoon , but I was tired when I got home and needed an afternoon nap ! Ooh well there is always tomorrow !
Nice mix of pricklies !! I am so glad I don’t have to make a cake anymore, I never enjoyed making the amount I had to. I made and royal iced celebration cakes for over 20 years.
Yes always tomorrow Beryl, that’s the beauty of retirement!
I can see now where your love if gardening came from...your dad would be looking down on your lovely garden with prude....‘I taught her well!’ I have been rather taken with the succulent plants on Gardeners World...they looked very attractive when Monty potted them up!
How lovely that this collection sparks happy memories for you. One more day before cake making sounds good...but no skimping on the soaking in brandy for the dried fruit 😉!
Yesterday I was so interested in your idea for making a Christmas Cake that I googled "British Christmas Cake recipe"! The first line mentioned it should be made by October 31st! I was impressed that it will take 6 weeks to be ready!
Love to see the cacti with all their different shapes and sizes my Grandchildren both have a mini cacti garden they seem to have become very fashionable again.Good you were able to meet your friends today. We are on the verge of level 2 and I dont think it will be long coming.Take care Beryl.
