Relaxing times

So fed up and frustrated. Days spend relaxing, reading a book I received at Christmas, planning trips and shopping.
Thinking of ordering these as frightened of having another fall. Looks like my op is going to happen on Tuesday 6th
Freaking out. Even though my dad even tried calming me Lou it’s a minor everyday op they do. They don’t do op to cause pain which is another thing that worries me But-most of all I’m terrified if they damage a nerve especially as it’s my right hand.. All done and dusted 30/60 mins. And I’ll be asleep so I’ll know nothing about it.
The Martin Hewlett podcasts are helping calm me as not as bad as have been. Also maybe the Porpraxamal are helping too. I do feel a little stupid having this fear but everyone has some fears. I have managed to overcome blood test and injections fears so I suppose this is perfect time to overcome operation fears 🤔
I'm sure you will find they will be expert and thoughtful! Think of something worse - like an op to remove your bowel!

I used something similar at the Grand Canyon after my knee injury, light but gave me piece of mind and stability.

You're doing so well, you just need to remember 😊 you're not running away from your fears - and if you can let me know how you managed to get over the injection/blood test fear that would be great, Dave still passes out with those!

Walking poles are a good idea I use them when I go out with our walking group in the bushland. You are going to be fine it will all be over soon.

I was supposed to have surgery on the 6 June too but the hospital phoned yesterday and it has been delayed till the 4 July.

Some people find walking poles helpful, I find them a hindrance and usually end up just carrying them.

@boxplayer at an appointment at Guys hospital when I freaked out regarding a biopsy (which in the end I got out off😊) she offered talking therapy for my needle phobia. It was OK but only helped a little. Breathing techniques is often what I use when I enter the room I tell them that I’m a nervous patient and I look opposite direction, close my eyes dream and breathe and it’s over in no time. Although I’ve been lucky that all blood tests have been very good very quick and hardly felt the needle.
Another thing I did was go to YouTube and watch people having injections and blood tests- that was a hard one but it seemed to work or let’s say so far so good.
A lady I spoke to when I was on my walk at Bluewater Lakes asked what happened to my arm - I mentioned that I was terrified of having an op and very much like my sister in law; she mentioned about learning to face your fears, mediation, visualisation ( although don’t know much about that one) and breathing techniques.

@bizziebeeme thanks for this, all great tips - and it's so odd as he's not generally an anxious fretting person (like me for example!) it's almost like the fear is so deeply embedded inside him, hard wired. What we've found works best so far is distraction (getting him to watch football YouTube vids on his phone) while it's happening 🤣
