Our little Downy Woodpecker friend had a visit from his much larger cousin, the Hairy Woodpecker! I took about 50 photos trying to get one that showed them both clearly as well as their size comparison. The Hairy is to the left and the Downy on the right. Because of the angle, you can't see that the Hairy is larger. Oh, well.
@cottiac That's a very good question! The Hairy, on the left, is about 50% bigger than the Downy (not evident in this photo). His bill is maybe twice as long as the Downy's, and the red patch on his head is split. And thanks for the compliment!
