A Mover and a Shaker

John. A McDougall was one of the erly pioneers in Edmonton's history. He was born in Oakwood Ontario in 1854 and moved with his wife to Edmonton in 1879.
He was instrumental in establishing Edmonton's first school. He served as a justice of the peace. From 1896-1907 he along with a business partner ran a general store on Jasper Avenue. In 1907 he sold his business and started a financial house and mortgage corporation.
He was the first President of the Edmonton Board of Trade. He seved on city council as both an alderman and as Mayor of Edmonton. From 1909-1913 he served as a Libeal MLA for Edmonton.
Today there is a road named after him. Statues built of him and one of his houses still stands today. This school was also named after him and is on the Historic Registries List.
Definitely a man who made a difference in the beginnings of our city

Nice shot- it's interesting to me that the architecture of this school is very similar to the high school my dad and his siblings went to (which later became the Jr. High School that I went to!). They probably would have been built around the same time. This building seems to be a fitting tribute to a man who had such an impact on your city. Nice shot!
February 3rd, 2012
@olivetreeann Thanks. I have noticed that in my travels that many schools had this type of design to them
