This is the Mitchell House. It was built in 1936 by Frederick Mitchell. Mitchell moved to Edmonton from Ontario in 1914. He returned to Edmonton after serving in World War l
He had two main interests. Politics and sports. He served as a city alderman from 1941 - 1964.
He was Deputy Mayor many years and in 1958 was named acting mayor for 5 weeks.
As for sports He loved tennis and badminton. At the age of 84 he gave up badminton as he said it was interfering with his tennis serve.
When Frederick passed away on Dec. 25, 1979 at the age of 86 he was still living in the house.
Many people have nicknamed this a fairy tale house because of the unique hectagon entrance.
This concludes my mini series on just a few of the many historical homes in Edmonton
