Day five on my series of Things Canada is Known For. Connected with my Hockey post from yesterday is Wayne Gretzky. Considered by many to be the greatest player to ever play the game. He played here in Edmonton from 1979-88. The majority of records he set were done while playing here.
Shortly after his retirement this statue, of Wayne holding the Stanley Cup, was erected in front of the Northlands Coliseum.
When Roger's Place opened a few years ago the statue was relocated.
If this is the first day catching my series l would love to know what you think about when you think of Canada
You know, there is a statue of him in one of my neighbouring towns too, but I don't think I've ever seen it! Now I wonder how similar the two statues are.
@fishers Ian the trophy started with the bowl on top with a small base. Over the years more layers have been added. Every year the names of each member of the winning team have there names engraved on the trophy
