Carrying on with a couple of snaps for my memories when I move oop north :-)
Just beneath my feet lay the remains of a Roman kiln, which is believed to be used for the manufacture of tiles (a selection of which are in the middle of the pic).
It was discovered when they built a park in 1953, and is thought to have dated back to the second half of the first century AD. In 1994 someone found a hoard of Roman silver denarii coins with a metal detector, which dated around 200AD.
The name of the town - Potters Bar - is thought to derive from evidence of a Roman pottery, and its mad to think this tiny little uneventful town has been around so long. Its the quietest place I have ever lived.
