The reason for my recent visit to my parents was to pick up my birth certificate (so I can get married!) and a few other odds and sods.
It was nice to see my old charm bracelet again as Mum collected some bits from wherever we were.. I was born in Lebanon, and lived in Singapore, Iran, and Norway as a child and we visited many other countries around that area. I've always wanted to go back to Lebanon, but every time my father and I made plans years back, the troubles kicked off again and my Dad refused to go as he'd had enough of it when we lived there. We left on my first birthday, very fast because of a particular bad session so I only know it by photographs, cine film and the stories I've been told.
Its such a shame as it was such a wonderful country - the Switzerland of the Middle East apparently!
On it to name a few are the Lebanese Cedar Tree, Baalbek monument, a Mosque, Nefertiti and the Koran.
I'm very happy for you to be re-united with this piece of your memories. Do you have the wedding day tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue? You may want to wear it (or carry it) at your wedding and add a charm for that occassion as well.
What a great bracelet that is full of memories. Glad you will now have it with you. Blessings on you as you get ready for your wedding. Love this photo and the charms.
Freida, this a lovely image to show a part of your history. I love the background it was shot against. So excited about your upcoming marriage! Wonderful news. About Lebanon: I have only one personal brush with this country. I met a fellow traveler in the airport one day who was Lebanese. She was delightful and such a staunch ambassador. I have not met many people with such obvious love of their homeland. She told me many wonderful things that Lebanon has to offer and I have not forgotten the encounter. I really wish you get to go at some point. :)
What can I say? It is a very nice picture and touching story. I know in a direct way what you are talking about and wish I could visit Lebanon and other countries you mentioned. A lot of suffering and fears were spread in the area I live in by cruel and vane leaders. I unfortunately did not leave but wish my daughter your age probably will live in a better world or another country.
lovely shot and memories, Freida! What an interesting childhood you've had! Congrats on getting married - this is so exciting!! When is the big day? :-)
Charm bracelets are little vignettes of life. You've had the best opportunities to enjoy life on so many foreign shores, and this is a nice way to remember them. And, WOW...Congratulations on your pending marriage!
Oh wow, what a story you really lived in a lot of interesting places and your future plans are exciting too. And the picture is great .... as usual :-)
