toadstool

Ya, it's poisonous, but it's cute.
Amanita muscaria https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria
Somehow it looks poisonous - that vibrant red colour and the bits and bobs on it!

I've always thought it was a shame these aren't edible, it would really look great in food.

@lynnz I had to drive about 4 hours to the forest where they grow. I live in the desert, these shrooms live in pine forests.

Sadly, most cute things turn out poisonous. Or immoral. Or illegal... ;-)

This is the prototype of a mushroom. Ask Dutch children to draw one and they will draw a fly amanitus. There is even a children's song about a gnome and a mushroom "red with white dots". Almost every child knows it.

@wenser They're pretty classic. For me, when I see these mushrooms, my mind goes straight to the 1960's psychedelic poster art.

@blueberry1222 We have paddoshops, 'paddo' being an abbreviation for paddenstoel, the Dutch word for toadstool. You can compare them to the Dutch coffeshops where buying coffee is not the main goal.

@wenser Took me a second to let it sink in what you were referring to, but then I said, "Amsterdam" to myself and I went "A-ha!"
