What a beautiful specimen and capture! I read a long time ago that some tribes used the needles for sewing deer skins and to make fish hooks. I do know they've been poached for gardens for too many years too. It's sad.
Wow that's a stocky, sturdy cactus - I've always wanted to travel to the Southwest to see the landscape and cacti in their natural environment - so cool!
