My Goldfinches have been missing for a couple weeks but I noticed yesterday they had returned en masse along with the House Finches. I snapped this little guy sitting in the Birch tree this morning as he was basking in the sunlight. Not only are they the State Bird of Iowa but they are probably one of, if not my favorite bird that visits the feeders. They are always such cheerful little birds...though their colors become quite dull during the winter months, their vibrant yellow color will return once spring arrives.
This is a beautiful shot. I know what you mean about them looking dull in the winter but when I look at your photo I see burnished gold, sunflower yellow, amber, and ivory. It is really a lovely little bird. I love the combination of the bird and the birch in the sunlight. Makes it a content rich.
What a capture, Paula. Sitting in the birches is just perfect. I love watching them at my feeders as well . . .and waiting for the return of the brilliant yellow. Did not know this was your state bird. Thanks for the info . . we learn so much on this site, don't we?
This shot is beautiful. I love goldfinches and I love white birch. Beautiful trees and birds. It doesn't get better. I love the framing and processing also.
@wac Thank you Wendy, they've been missing for several weeks and when they finally returned I thought the males were looking a little more yellow than before they left but I figured it was just wishful thinking on my part.! :)
