Resting

Got my first dragonfly shot today....normally I do bug shots with a macro lens but since I already had my 70-300 on the camera that's what I used. He was a ways off and would fly off whenever I tried to get closer so I'd have probably never got a picture of him close up any way. Everytime I see dragonflies they're usually flitting allover the place so I was really happy t see this guy sitting still for a minute. He's wouldn't turn around and face me and he has a bit of a dinged wing but I think he's still pretty nice looking for a bug! :)
Excellent!!!

This is great! Very nice capture.

Maybe the dinged wing is why it stayed still.

Great dragonfly! Love the colors and the detailed wings. Is he on a crumpled flower?

Amazing shot, I can never catch those little critters in time.

Yes, amazing. Love the contrast of the dead and live leaves, the full and torn wing and your DOF.

I am in awe - I have never managed to capture a dragon fly - the don't sit still long enough for me

So delicate.

Well done Paula, I often use my 70-300 for Dragonflies. Don't be afraid to fire off the flash even in daytime for shots like this.

@bobfoto Thanks for the tip Jason I need all the help I can get... I'll try it next time. I would have never thought of using the longer lens but actually it worked out better than expected. That dragonfly never would have sat still long enough for me to get him with the macro anyway not to mention there was too much brush and weeds to climb through to get close to him easily..
