When I was driving home tonight just as it was getting dark I happen to look out my window and see this great big orange moon rising. I looked it up to see if there was some kind of special lunar event going on tonight but all I could find on an orange moon is this little tidbit.
The moon can turn orange when there's a lot of dust, smoke, or pollution in the atmosphere.
Hmmmm, it didn't seem any more smoky, dusty or polluted than usual though! :)
Very surreal feeling.I always admire moon shots...cause I can't do them .... (yet). Living near Los Angeles as I do, sometimes the moon is red when it comes up during fire season.
Paula, this is amazing. I love the way you captured the moon behind the trees. It is a fav for me. It was clear here for a while yesterday but not when the moon was up, it was snowing again.
This is just great, I couldn't get enough of the moon over here on the coast either, it was just amazing! You got a great shot of it! I love the subtle frame as well

Thank you so much for all the incredibly kind comments! When I imported my pictures I didn't pay any attention to all the moonshots I took because they always turn out lousy and I was really excited about some sunshine through the ice on my windshield shots I took so I uploaded one of those pictures for my 365 album and as an afterthought decided to look through the moonshots and started to work with this one. This is basically how it looked and then I added some contrast and sharpening, slapped a frame on it and put it in my 2nd album. I was startled by just how BIG and ORANGE the moon was and it was only around 5:30. It didn't last long, the clouds came in and before I even got home started to obscure the view. I don't expect to see an orange moon this time of year...mostly just see those big Harvest Moons during the Autumn months. Anyway, thank you all again for all your nice comments! :)
First time I saw one of these in London I went and knocked up all the neighbours to come out to the park to look at it - everyone got to know each other over the orange moon. It is just soooo beautiful the way you got the blue and orange contrasting and complimenting along with tree lace silhouettes
wow, great shot, really beautiful, and you are luck, all the time I am driving home from work I see the moon so big, but when I get close to my home, the angle is totally different and I can't even see to moon anymore.

I'm so jealous! I checked the lunar calendar and was hoping on that full moon shot last night, and it was NOWHERE to be found! Sky was clear too...have no idea where it's hiding. This is really beautiful. The color contrast works well.
