Kekeni animase

Kairiku Hiri girls are gorgeous. Just sayin'. The Motuan ladies along the Southern coastline of Papua New Guinea come from different stock then their Highland and Northern Coast cousins.

There is so much to see in this photograph, the detailed trimming of feathers in her headdress, and the cotton bindings. The leaves that are tied to her hair has been crimped for decoration, her name is embroidered on her armband, just above the crocus shell armband, and she has some Kina shells on a necklace, currency in the islands.

Again, a photograph taken at the Independence Day festivities at the University of Papua New Guinea out at Waigani, Port Moresby. Great day out!

Photo taken 16 September 2008.
She is beautiful and I love all that you captured in this moment.

August 1st, 2012
she's regal and stunning... beautifully captured, sir.
August 30th, 2012
@hellcat - do you not what is pretty gross about all these gorgeous headdresses.... they feel like DEAD ANIMALS! All that fur and feathers just leaves that dodgy feeling on your fingers! Blegggghhh!
August 30th, 2012
I wonder why that is? (other than the part that they come from dead animals, one would think that there is treatments that people do to keep them from feeling like that.)
August 30th, 2012
@hellcat - I'm sure there is, but I doubt even a taxidermist could rid feathers of that feeling...
