@tigerdreamer - yeah, on the left, in the dirt, you can see the husks. They chew or crack the husk open and rip out the round light brown kernel. They then use the Dakar (the green sticks you can see just to the left of the Holy Bible) and they dunk the Dakar into the Kambung (the white lime powder that is to the left of the dakar) and the whole lot goes into the gob.
@maggiemae - I meant Hong Kong. Sorry. I am a horticulturist by trade, so I have chewed on many plants including palm nuts in the past. I knew what to expect when I saw Betelnut, and i didn't fancy adding lime powder to the mix. It tastes grassy with a woody texture and quite a pungent sweet fragrance to it, kinda like rotting figs.
@maaikel - Cheers Maaikel!
@kjarn - Good for a Sunday arvo anyway!
@swilde - Oh yeah.

@carolmw - Thanks Carol :)
@shamrockinmom - Thanks Sherry :)
@tonydebont - Yeah I like the relaxed look of it all.
@bella_ss - Wise decision.
@paulavdmerwe - Yeah she was sweet even though I purchased no nuts from her!
