Today is the 39th birthday of my adopted homeland of Papua New Guinea. I have been travelling of late and I have been procrastinating the closure of this project to the extent I simply haven't posted, but I have been taking photographs and I'm thinking that maybe the great Duk Duks of East New Britain could prove the perfect finale.
So I went hunting for Duk Duks.
Around 6 years ago I went on a hunt for the elusive Duk Duk and I found one on a lonely country road and it scared the pek pek out of me. The Tumburan as these ones are properly called are a spirit that embodies everything about the Tolai people of the Baining Mountains and they are very secretive and reserved for special occasions.
More to come.
Photo taken the other day in Rabaul, East New Britain.
The information I read about them sounds rather frightening - spirits who could judge. It is very special that you got this photo but is it of a Duk Duk?
@kali66 - maybe. unlikely.
@houdiniem - they were pretty cool indeed!
@gerry - Cheers Gerry.
@swilde - they were a fidgety mob.
@rach_who @will_wooderson - perhaps they always were?
@nataliemac - did you see the teev footage?
@susale - thanks Suse :)
