Trumpet in the session

Nice reflection from the marquee roof on the metal of the trumpet at the Tuneworks session at Shrewsbury Folk Festival.

Bit of a rushed morning, packing for a weekend away at Shrewsbury Folk Festival. Tdied up a bit, fed next door's Rhubarb and did all the checking of back doors, cookers etc. Dave cycled off to the garage to pick up the car from its service.

Got the train from Euston to Birmingham New Street - quite busy today - the Euston concourse was absolutely mobbed with people. And so it was too on the small platform for the local train to Shrewsbury.

Walked the short distance to the Premier Inn, just round the corner from the station on the riverside. All very swish compared to the Prince Rupert which I'd decided against this year as it seemed to be so expensive. A massive room with a big bathroom including shower and bath. Tea and coffee making facilities of course.

Walked to the festival site and picked up our wristbands and on to the beer tent for the Tuneworks session. This was very busy as usual and I had to find Dave a chair before he left in a grump. I played whistle for a bit until I got bored of the same old tunes.

Wandered off to look at evening food options. Once Dave came out we ate - nachos for me and a rather spicy burrito for him. Anna found us and got herself some jerk chicken and rice. Went off to Sabrina's to catch Kerry Andrew's very interesting collaboration piece with K'antu then Jamie Huddlestone on rather startlingly quick and good melodeon.

Popped in to the English session in the Berwick bar where we met Frances. I stayed on there for a bit and Dave decided to go back for an early night. Left after a bit and found Anna playing much harder tunes with Jamie and some other good musicians in the food tent.

Stayed listening for a bit then Anna drove us home. Made a casual arrangement to meet Frances O for breakfast - apparently there's a dirt cheap Wetherspoon's not far away.
