Bridge over the stream

View from the Marine Engine House terrace at Walthamstow Wetlands.

Gorgeous sunny day but quite cold and my hands started to freeze as we cycled over to the wetlands cafe for breakfast. Had chivvied Dave out as I wanted to get there for opening time, mindful of how busy I'd seen it a couple of weeks back.

We got there maybe 20 mins after opening time and the cafe tables were almost all taken already. I grabbed a table quickly and we scoured the menu - Dave chose a cheese and mushroom toastie with a chocolate tart and I went for the veggie fry-up which turned out to be very wholesome and healthy - spinach, falafels, homemade smoky baked beans, eggs and crusty toast. Nice pot of tea too.

As we waited for our food, it got very busy very quickly, so was glad I'd chivvied. Had a quick browse round the gift shop (some nice jewellery) and a look at the view from the terrace. Also saw the knitted urban swifts - at the base of the tower which has been refurbished as a swift nesting place.

Cycled through the wetlands - very busy with families - and out the Coppermill Lane entrance. Parked up at the bottom of the high street and did a bit of a shop in the International Supermarket and Lidl as well as noseying around in the Oxfam shop.

Later on, popped next door for a few drinks, nibbles and fireworks. Very nice.
