Birthday champagne

Toasting Dave's forthcoming birthday at Petit Pois in Brighton with my niece.

Day off but up early to pack, even so left late as usual. On the drive down to Sussex, Dave got a few texts to say that his college's stand at the garden show had won a gold medal as well as best in show.

Drove through beautiful downs countryside and arrived in Peacehaven. A bit late so parked up and quickly found the bus stop to go in to Brighton. Met my niece at French small plates restaurant Petit Pois.

A very yummy couple of hours eating and drinking - a glass of champagne and a bottle of Chablis. Snails, a wholesome quinoa, kale and lentil stew, a giant raviolo, scallops, squid, and a trio gourmand each to finish.

Mooched around the shops after - Dave found some replacement DM boots and I got myself a teapot for one. Also bought some yummy chocs in Be Chocolat and a brie baguette and lemon polenta slice for later.

Couldn't find the oyster stall on the beach so headed for the bus stop to get the 14 back to the airbnb. Quite busy now and a bit of traffic climbing up the hill out of town - Dave getting a bit queasy.

A quick turnaround at the airbnb. Greeted by their little Jack Russell terriers we headed upstairs to our very nice room with attached dressing room and ensuite power shower. Some goodies left for us in the room and I managed to munch through far too many fruit jellies.

Walked round to the home of the Copper Family round the corner for the house concert we had bought tickets to as part of a crowdfunding campaign for fRoots magazine. This was behind the big brash new builds, a massive open plan barn with huge oak rafters - impressive.

Bought drinks and what seemed like thousands of raffle tickets then went upstairs for the concert, Lovely evening - a few guests played too, Dan Quinn playing Bob Copper's old melodeon which hadn't been played since he died and Maggie Holland.

Then various incarnations of the Coppers, old and young, including the next generation. Shirley Collins and Ian Kearey sang in the second half - interesting if a touch dull but a big finale with everyone singing together livened things up.

Didn't win the raffle though despite the thousands of raffle tickets. Walked back to the airbnb, quite clear and cold now and getting misty.
