Allium and honeybee

In Capel Manor Gardens.

So having been exhausted ourselves with our huge 12.5 walk yesterday, Dave persuaded me to cycle to the Heavy Horse Show at Capel Manor Gardens along with his colleague Francesco and his girlfriend. Was the furthest I've cycled in I don't remember when - 9ish miles each way.

And very hot again but I did fancy it. So after brunch in the garden got the bicycles out and cycled to the river Lea at Tottenham Hale to meet F and S.

We cycled along the towpath north, a beautiful route - sometimes very pretty and rural, other times rather derelict and edgy-looking especially the rather ghastly Ponders End lock.

And sometimes it was quite busy and at other times almost deserted. The path often got a bit narrow and especially near an industrial estate where they'd blocked off the estate with a fence leaving only a very narrow strip between that and the water.

The path got quite rough after a bit and I was very nervous at first but soon got used to it. Came out near Ordnance Road and then there was a bit of road cycling towards the gardens.

The show was OK but no different from previous years and it was excessively hot and no drinks stalls around. Walked around the gardens and stalls before cycling back - this time it seemed easier.

We stopped at the Ferry Boat Inn for a couple of drinks - Pimms and gin - drinking outside in the warm then cycled home for veggie burgers.
