Very comfortable night in the budget Ibis in Sheffield and their buffet breakfast wasn't bad either. Very mizzly outside and I hurried to the station before the predicted heavy rain started.
Train to Leeds then Garsdale on the ridiculously scenic route via Settle and the Ribblehead viaduct, passing Dent, the highest station in England, and with great views of the tops. Little White Bus met me at the station and took me to Hawes where my room was ready.
Made my way to the Wensleydale Creamery for lunch. A queue for tables here - but a lady on a table by herself said she didn't mind if I shared. Turned out she was on the same workshop weekend. Wensleydale mac and cheese was very good and I bought a cheese scone and some Wensleydale fruit cake for supper.
Early arrivals session after, which wasn't bad before a doze in the hotel. Walked to the museum for a welcome session which also had its moments. The session was supposed to continue in one of the pubs, but they denied all knowledge of the booking so I went home to bed.
3 good things
1. The day started and ended very damp and mizzly, but the sun came out in the middle, showing off the beauty of the dales.
2. Cheese.
3. Hawes - lots of interesting little shops and tons of pubs.
I too recognise this view. My husbands ancestors lived in Gayle back in the late 1800's but most left the village for work in the Lancashire cotton mills and never returned. We have not been back for quite a while but will soon hopefully so that I can add some photographs to the family tree.
