Italy Day 7: Postcard from Panicale

The arches and narrow lanes of pretty Panicale.

A rather muggy, overcast morning for breakfast today, then drove to the nearby biggish village, Panicale, for a wander round more picturesque narrow lanes, spanned occasionally by brick arches – as well as a nice big open square with a fountain, big church and lots of nice cafes to eat ice-cream at.

Walked up to the church of St Sebastian to see if we could view another Perugino reputedly inside. The church was locked, but we did bump into Fernando, an elderly gentlemen who was interested to know where we were from. Turns out he spent some time living on the Finchley Road 50 years ago. Think things might have changed a bit since then. But was nice talking to him. He told us we needed to go to the information office to see about gaining access to the church.

After an ice-cream in the Bar de Gallo (chocolate and peach), we wandered some more taking endless pics – sun now deciding to come out.

Back for lunch with more leftover lentils, lasagne, the ever-present tomato salad and cheese. Then the usual chill-out – card games with prosecco and pool games involving relay races and a silly game of It. At some point, one of the giant parasols blew over as it was getting decidedly windy.

Helped out with dinner – aubergine parmigiana and roast potatoes with some puttanesca pasta. Then zabaglione for pudding. The kids went out to swim in the floodlit pool and then we ended our last evening at Torre di Paciano as usual with cheese and chocolates and some Vin Santo in the prosecco lounge.
