Olympic park

The best day of Olympic fever yet. I'm still so excited. We went to Stratford! View from the John Lewis viewing gallery.

A day off, so a bit more decluttering until we got seduced by the magic box transmitting excitement from just west of London - and caught Helen Glover and Heather Stanning getting us a first gold medal - they were so happy, it's catching. And not forgetting the men's eight going all out for gold, but managing a very acceptable bronze.

Then of course there was Bradley - what a total star - cycling like a demon among the most enthusiastic of crowds in and around Hampton Court, with his partner in medal glory Chris Froome.

I then rushed into town to meet Rich, Andy and Juliette at Liverpool St - where we caught the train to Stratford. No tickets for anything (even though Juliette got to the payment stage of getting us swimming tickets before being chucked out) but what a fab evening. Westfield, and all around the edge of the park, was heaving with happy, smiling people from all over the world - all togged up in wigs, facepaint, flags and what have you.

One of the happy, smiling, pink foam hand people told me about the John Lewis viewing gallery (£2 entry, goes to charity) - so we went up there and took a few pics and ogled all the merchandise in the shop.

Then we found the Heineken bar (£3 entry - what a cheek, but actually it was worth it in the end) so we could watch the swimming. Highlight was the 200m breaststroke, not just because Michael Jamieson won silver, but because there was a small group of Hungarians who were so excited and overjoyed when Daniel Gyurta won, it was brill to see (and take pics of). The sound was not on during the following medal ceremony, so they sung their national anthem themselves - fab. And there were also lots of happy, cheering Americans (with their own banner they'd wheel out every time an American won - which was often), Brazilians, Dutch, French (complete with berets) etc.

Watched the rest of the swimming before heading back to the viewing gallery for some (rather crap on my part) night shots and then some Lebanese meze in Westfield. I was a bit grumpy at first as they didn't seem to have anything that was on their menu board and weren't able to grill the halloumi for some reason. But it was quite tasty in the end.

You probably caught more of the atmosphere going round to different places than if you had been sitting in one place. Great photos from you & @sparkle...did either of you use a small tripod to get these HDR shots or are they done through processing?
