Asylum

Carrington Hospital opened 1867 and closed in 1992. For many years the buildings housed a tertiary education institute until 2019 when the buildings were sold to the government. Understandably there is a palpable sense of melancholy around these buildings. So many nooks and crannies (and that's the outside!)
Thankfully we have come along way since the the 1800's in the care of people .. having said that we still have a way to go in adequately funding and resourcing mental health services.

@nicolecampbell @annied @ludwigsdiana thanks ladies.. you know I was still doing my edit when you commented! Who knew that could happen!
Sooo much history in this place .. and the tree is somewhat symbolic in my mind .. the whole premises are surrounded by oak trees which are really splendid at this time of year as they shed their summer coat and prepare for a bare winter
