Sharon Temple National Historic Site

This picture doesn't do it justice, I took it from the running car.

The Sharon Temple is located in the village of Sharon, Ontario (10 minutes drive from home just north of the town of Newmarket.) the temple was constructed between 1825 and 1832 by the "Children of Peace" by a Quaker sect led by David Willson whose property it was built on. it was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990. the site is composed of eight distinctive heritage buildings and dwellings, and houses 6,000 artifacts on a 1.8 hectar site. for more information pls google Sharon Temple, Ontario, Canada.

How unusual! I did not know that Shakers were a group that do not/did not marry or have children. We study history at school, and this came up. The book said that "in the old days" Shakers would adopt orphans....and they helped do the work, etc.. and they took care of them. But in the 1930s or so, the government made laws against this and set up the foster care system. Aren't there just a few hundred Shakers now?

@espyetta Uh..to be thruthful I didn't know that about them..now that's interesting. thanks MaryBeth for mention this.

@bruni I hope I am not saying something not accurate, but I looked it up and read some articles on them last year...a student was reading this historical fiction book about a girl who went to live with the Shakers...and she told me about them not marrying and having kids. I told her she had to be wrong. but when I looked at her book and other articles, it verified what she said.

Nice shot. It looks like a lovely building. You will have to go back and shoot it while the car isn't moving! I like the motion blur in this though. You can tell you are moving. We have a shaker museum nearby. I should visit someday. Nice job on this photo, Bruni! :)
