With good care you can enjoy the flower power of your Phalaenopsis for up to three months. And did you know that you can bloom your Phalaenopsis after flowering, with a rest period of about six months before the plant? We've put some tips for you to enjoy the flower power of your Phalaenopsis as long as possible. Also, these tips help you to bring your orchid several times in bloom.

Temperature and Light
The Phalaenopsis works best at a minimum night temperature of 16 ° C and a maximum daytime temperature of 24 ° C. The ideal daytime temperature is between 20 and 22 ° C. This orchid asks for a lot of light, but does not tolerate direct sunlight, certainly not during the summer months. An ideal place is a spot on the windowsill facing the (north) east or south (south) west. When leaves turn yellow, this can be a sign of too much direct sunlight. The fall of flower buds or dark green leaves may indicate a possible lack of light.

Water and moisture
Do not pour the water into the heart of the plant, but just on the ground in the pot. Rainwater is better than tap water where (too) a lot of lime is in it. Please prefer water early in the day. It is even better to immerse the pot in a bucket of water for 5 to 10 minutes. Then your orchid can rest for seven days without water. In its natural environment, the Phalaenopsis has a high humidity. If you want to grow or grow the plant, then it works best in damp places, such as in a kitchen, bathroom or conservatory.

Soil and fertilizer
It is important that the Phalaenopsis is in a soiled soil that provides moisture drainage. Special orchid soils that you can buy at most garden centers are ideal. Do not use ordinary potting soil. Because there is often little food in the airy orchid soil, you can best fertilize Phaelenopsis through the water. For this, special orchid fertilizer is available for sale. Fertilization is required in March to October, twice a month.

After the bloom
If a Phalaenopsis has bleed, you can bloom it again. For this it is necessary to cut the branch above the second 'eye'. By "eye" we mean a thickening on the branch. Begin from bottom with counting. If the Phalaenopsis develops air roots, which grow out of the pot, this is a sign that the orchid feels like it. Just sit the roots. You do not have to stop them in the pot. You also run the risk of damage to the roots.

I saw this the other day but didn't have time to comment. I knew it was your pic too! I had one chipmunk this summer that was starting to come to the back door for peanuts but he's not been coming for a while, although I do think he's still scurrying around the backyard. Good shot!!

Bruni , you`re alway`s very welcome. To you questions:
After blooming store it in a nice light place. This can be the same place it`s now, but do you like them without a flower?
The temp. can go down a little (20 C./ 68 F.) and watering less to once a week.
In nature the plant do n`t grow in a pot. It grows on tree branches high into the air. Most of the watering comes from early morning fogs and waterdrops.

Just as friendly as some of our squirrels at the park. Great capture, Bruni. Love the chipmunks as we do not get them here. FAV
