Heidi is still a bit shy when it comes to her Oma. she's only two and hardly ever gets to see me since they live 6 1/2 hours drive away and we only see them on holidays when they're 'back home' how her mom calls it. her brother, Henry is now four and he loves to sit with me when I read to him, or when he wants to play hide and seek (and I'm really getting too old for this game).
We had a great time and Grace obliged me by taking some of the pictures.
Heidi is a little devil but aww so cute
Lovely scene Bruni ! My mother in law was German ( like you I know😉) and my kids called her Oma, she left us one year and half ago, readin the name “oma” brings me some memories...
@cocobella Yes I'm oma and Hans is opa to our grandchildren and we should be great oma and great opa, but that's too much for the little ones to remember.
@ludwigsdiana Diana, my son never learned german, he was a 'dikkop'. Grace spoke it until she was ready for kindergarten.
we spoke mostly german at home. Grace kept it up and most the time we speak german on our outings or when it's only her visiting us.
so my son's kids (3) never learned to speak german and his daughter, is married to an english/french speaking guy, it seems unlikely, but maybe Heidi and Henry will learn french. too bad. notice, they gave them german names.
@bruni on my French side my kids call my parents : Manou and Dadou , it was more difficult on my husband’s side his German mum was Oma but his Spanish father was Avi ....
