OH NO - OH YES - IT HAPPENED by bruni

Hans, Grace and I drove in her new car, which had brand new all weather tires on, up to Bobcaygeon, Ontario for her to visit her Dad and for Hans and I to visit our latest great-grandchild Carmen,
On our way home the weather took a turn for the worse and we got into a heavy snow storm.
It happened so fast, Grace must've hit black ice as the car spun us around and we landed in the ditch on the opposite side of the road with the front of the car facing the oncoming traffic.
To make a long story short, we sat in that ditch for over 3 hours. Grace called CAA (her auto club) for a tow truck but none where available. lots of private tow trucks stopped but when they heard the tow was to go into Toronto to her mechanic, they lost interest. some quoted us outrages prices.
Someone who saw us must have called the accident in as a police car came. After asking us if we were all okay he cancelled the ambulance which was en-route. He said he'd stay with us until the tow truck arrived. After about 2 hours of waiting my Son convinced us that he should come (from an hour away) to take us home in case we couldn't go with the tow truck driver. Grace hadn't been able to establish yet if they could. The police officer periodically checked on us to see if we wanted to wait in his cruiser to get warm. We finally did shortly before my Son and daughter-in law arrived. At this point the police officer said we were safe and he could leave.
4 hours after our initial slide into the ditch the tow truck finally arrived. It took a while before he got the car up on the flatbed. We arrived home safe and sound shortly after midnight. We had left my grandson's home at around 5:30 pm for a drive that should've taken an hour and a half.

Oh dear, such a horrible experience for you both. But thankfully you are OK.

OH NO ! How horrible for you and your family but thankfully none of you were hurt although I am sure you were badly shaken! I am glad you were not involved with any other cars, as well.

It is disgraceful that tow truck drivers would be driven by greed or an indifferent to your plight! BUT, I guess that's the world we live in now.

So glad that you were not hurt.
