King's Cross station by busylady

King's Cross station

I had a day in London with friends yesterday to see the ballgown exhibition at the V&A (hence the lack of commenting!) On the way home we had half an hour to wait at the station. King's Cross station has been undergoing a major refurbishment since 2005 at a cost of £500 million. It is much improved with an extra platform being created from a former taxi rank. Apparently no diesel trains are allowed now, only electric, because of the fumes. More info here if you have time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_King's_Cross_railway_station (By the way this is SOOC)
Thank you so much for all your comments and fav's on my recent sunset/sunrise pictures, both of which made it to the PP. It always gives me a buzz.
Magnificent isn't it and so much more convenient for those of us who don't know if we're going from the main part or relegated to Platform 9. How was the exhibition? I nearly took Adam but we couldn't face the drag across town from the National Gallery.

Very cool pic. Must shoot KingsX myself soon. With my anorak on I have to say diesel trains are allowed, the InterCity 125 is still used on a lot of services.

@judithg To be honest we were a bit underwhelmed with the exhibition. There are some gowns and outfits which are available to the general public and not part of the exhibition and to be honest they were well worth seeing and possibly more interesting than the ballgowns. It depends how much you are into ballgowns - some were fabulous (darling) but others were just plain weird. It only cost £7 so wasn't that expensive. The Hollywood costume exhibition may be better but it costs about £15.
@godders Thanks for the comments and info Paul, I got my info from the Wikipedia website.

@busylady Thanks for the tip off - we've been to the part with Kylie's dressing room and really enjoyed the clothes in there. And we went to a fabulous exhibition in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY 'Impossible Conversations' which had film of a conversation between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada (an actress playing Schiaparelli) behind collections of their clothes. I normally go for 'comfort' myself but boy would I love to wear some of Schiaparelli's dresses!! She didn't design for terribly thin young girls but real women. If it travels here it's a must visit. http://www.metmuseum.org/en/exhibitions/listings/2012/impossible-conversations/about-the-exhibition

Well you wouldn't want to muck up that beautiful fretwork would you? It looks rather a pretty shade of lilac but probably just the lighting!! Always connect the name Kings Cross with that dreadful fire 25 years ago so perhaps this will give a happier feel to it.
