St. Edmund's (or St James) Church, Blunham by busylady

St. Edmund's (or St James) Church, Blunham

This is the view from the walking path along the old railway track from Bedford to Sandy. The route we followed was free of mud yesterday but had been underwater in recent days. Flooded fields are still in evidence. The church was originally named after St Edmund, the King of East Angles, but has always been known locally as St. James. The building to the right is the Rectory, a rather grand house owned by the church. Blunham is mentioned in the Domesday book, as is Countess Judith who owned half a hide of land here. (About 60 acres) The church itself is worth a look inside.
Nice composition Judith

Oooh I think I should be Countess Judith! I did try Dr J's gin this evening - delicious. I love this photo - it really sums up the moment.

Oh a lovely rural scene. We can't have you and Judith fighting over Countess status mind! @judithg

@fueast I might relinquish the Countess if I can have the gin!

@judithg @fueast By all accounts Countess Judith wasn't a nice lady so I don't think we'll fight over the status! She was the niece of William the Conqueror and she apparently betrayed her husband and went down in history as a nasty piece of work! http://archipelago-of-truth.blog.co.uk/2009/07/18/land-of-countess-judith-6541417/

@busylady Ohhh - our only posh namesake (I think) and she's a bad'un!

@judithg @busylady Probably drank too much gin
January 1st, 2013
@fueast @busylady Is that possible?

@judithg @fueast She also acquired land by devious means from local landowners, so was a thoroughly nasty piece of work. Ah well we'll just have to change the face of history. I still think you should write 'Letter from Cambridge' for the radio, then you could become a famous Judith.
