We visited the little museum in Tempsford this afternoon, open only once a month. Tempsford is a small village on the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border which has quite an historic past. This fire-engine dates from 1740 and was used up until the 1930's. The most secret airfield in Britain is to be found in Tempsford although it's not easy to locate. Tours are available via the internet and security is high - no pictures allowed! The SOE (Special Operations Executive) flew agents to and from occupied Europe from Tempsford during the 2nd world war. Many were were women and those who were discovered died a horrid death often in the concentration camps. The stories of these agents is told in the museum.
Have been meaning to go to that museum as Helen ( @snowy 's daughter) and I find the barn at the airfield very moving. No idea that there is still a secret airfield! I've got a photo of my great great granddad with his fire engine like this!
Just checking as I thought I hadn't seen your photos for a bit & I had unfollowed you...quite unintentionally believe me! I do that sometimes , I have no idea how!
