Spiced pear and apricot cake by busylady

Spiced pear and apricot cake

It's been a clear and sunny day today but bitterly cold so I've had a day indoors baking and pottering. This cake is a new recipe I salvaged from a discarded local newspaper recently. It has a layer of pears simmered in spices and apricot jam on the bottom which then becomes the top when baked. I haven't tried it yet!! I have a very poorly dog at the moment and wonder if she's on her last legs. She's not interested in food and sleeps most of the day. I'm afraid it may be cancer although I haven't had her to the vet. She is 11 years old, and a Westie. She's become very slow lately and doesn't want to go out for walks any more. At someone's suggestion I've tried her on scrambled egg and rice which she ate yesterday but has struggled with today. I have no experience with sick dogs - does anyone have any suggestions to make make her life more comfortable?
Beautiful shot Judith - it's a lovely composition and I bet the cake tastes lovely - Fav. Re: Betty - I would take her to the vet to find out what's wrong but I know when my little cat was poorly, they gave her some steroids which did improve her appetite.

Looks so delicious , I love tulips when they are left to do their own thing - they droop , twist and turn to their own desire -- and in that beautiful and cheerful jug !

A lovely composition and capture. Fav!! 😃 When Gemma was very ill last year, I found it very difficult getting her to eat, tried all sorts. I think she had cancer in the end. You could try a little minced chicken and rice.

Just read you above comments So sorry to hear that your poor little doggie is not well -please take her to the vet - of course old age is part of her tiredness but for your own peace of mind and to make sure she is as comfortable as possible whatever the prognosis is .Hope things are not as bad as you imagine !

Lovely composition.... the cake sounds a bit like a pineapple upside down pudding type recipe ?
Poor Betty.....My Twiggy dog (14 year old) is like this now... sleeps all day, I hand feed her scrambled egg or bits of boiled chicken every few days... took her out a week ago but carried her all the way !! This is the hardest part of being a dog owner & its not an easy decision to say the final goodbye !!

Oh dear Judith hard times coming up.......could be just old age & I think you would know if she was in pain. If it were me I would take her to the vet for a good check up. It would give you peace of mind & there could be something they could give her to help with her appetite or painkillers if necessary. Such a sad time when our beloved pets get towards the end of their lives but one good thing in a dogs world is there is no need for them to suffer unnecessarily!
Lovely looking cake , sounds very moist & sweet.....delicious!
