This magnificent church has been rebuilt since Dresden was bombed in 1945. Rebuilding was started in 1994 and the new church was finally consecrated in 2005. A long time to wait but they have built it as it would have looked at the time and have done a wonderful job. We were lucky to arrive in time to hear a short organ recital and to learn some of the history of the building, all in German. The schoolchildren in front were releasing their balloons to mark the anniversary of a German author.
Gorgeous. Glad they rebuilt it. When we were stationed in Wuerzburg in the 90s, they were still rebuilding part of the Bishop's residence. Hard to imagine they are still rebuilding all these years later.
It just dawned on me that you were in East Germany! That explains why it is still being rebuilt. When we crossed over from Berlin into East Germany the first time, it was about a year after the wall fell. West Germany was so beautiful and colorful and East Germany was rather colorless. It was very sad. Big day when the two re-united again.
