Stephenson's Rocket by busylady

Stephenson's Rocket

We visited the National Railway Museum in York today. This is a replica of the original Rocket which was built in 1829 by George Stephenson. The original is also displayed here.
Love the colour - Lamborghini of trains!

Welcome to our lovely city! Good to see that you have been to one of my favourite museums. I was there last week for the first time since before Covid-19. I like this shot. This replica of Rocket was designed to show the internal workings. The National Railway Museum also has a third, working replica of Rocket which is sometimes used on the South Yard shuttles.

It is magnificent. David was going to build me a model of Stephenson's Rocket when we first got married. I am still waiting, ha ha. 52 years later.

@fishers Thank you for your welcome. We have enjoyed our stay in York. We weren't sure if the other 'Rocket' was the original or not, or even if there is an original?

@busylady

The Rocket that is in a side area off the Station Hall is the original. It doesn't look like what you might expect, with the cylinder position lowered and it being predominantly black. It isn't long since it was moved from the Science Museum in London to the Railway Museum in York.
