Christmas cakes made

Does anyone still make their own Christmas cake, and put a brown paper collar round to help prevent burning? I still use a recipe from a Christmas brochure which came free with Prima magazine in 1991. I usually make the large version so I can make a small one for each of the children (all grown up now!)
I bet it smelt gorgeous in your house Judith! They look amazing! I don’t make a Christmas cake these days as for one I don’t care for it & two someone else makes ours now. Harry eats it all! 😳

That looks absolutely fabulous! Since living here in SA I have not made any. My sister is by far a better baker than I was ;-)

They look delicious Judith , and yes I wrap the outside of the tins in paper -- it used to be brown paper , but lately its a couple of thicknesses of newspaper !!!!!!

No wonder you needed more currants! They look amazing. And yes, I use brown paper around the outside of the tin for a WI recipe. Passing the tradition on too.

How lovely. I used to make a few...but family are so far flung now....but maybe I will have a go again. Prima was a favourite of mine too!!

What a super tradition to continue! Katharine doesn't make Christmas cake anymore, since I don't like it and it isn't compatible with Katharine's diet.

They look yummy! I have never tasted one, they are not eaten here. I guess it you are making them so early they must keep fresh for a long time.

@monicac They do. I have to pour a little brandy over them every 2 weeks till Christmas, then wrap them in greaseproof paper.

I don't eat so I don't bake.

I have made Christmas cakes before but not for some time, I don’t have the time or inclination. These look yummy though!

I love Christmas cake but always leave the icing. Looking forward to seeing the decorated cakes.

These look super. I've never done a Christmas cake. My mum never did either, I guess that's why. We did do a Clootie Dumpling though!
