St. Magnus Cathedral by busylady

St. Magnus Cathedral

We visited Kirkwall today, capital of Orkney. The building of this grand cathedral was begun in 1137, as a final resting place for the relics of St. Magnus. There is a tragic story behind the killing of Magnus, who was killed by his jealous cousin, Haakon. He was martyred soon after his death.
So much history behind all these wonderful old cathedrals. Beautifully captured Judith.

A very impressive church for a small island. The name suits it….Magnus is a strong & rugged name.
