Sorry if this is too gory. My first chance to photograph an eagle fairly close up. He was busy in a farm field, picking at what was left of his meal. Which I think may have been a raccoon. I see he's banded. There was another smaller eagle further in the distance.
A few years ago, we drove down to Wabasha MN to the National Eagle Center. Which if you've never been, is worth the trip.
I actually took this photo yesterday. Hope it's OK to bend the rules occasionally. I did take a photo today, but wanted to share this one instead.
I'm sure it's fine showing yesterday's picture. Everyone does it, when they need or want to. Meanwhile that is quite a striking picture. So distant from the usual bird beauty shot one usually sees. If you just look at the birds head, you might think it was a noble beast worthy of being our national emblem. But seen in light of the entire photo, the expression begins to take on a maniacal feel. I understand that far from being regal, bald eagles are actually scavengers who eat other animal's carrion.
Excellent shot, it tells a story. It doesn't matter when you took the photo. Your project, your rules. I only took a photo on the actual day during my first year. Now I post photos regardless of when they were taken.
@mbrutus Thank you for your comments, and shared thoughts. I agree, it is another view of the powerful eagle. My 10 year old thought it was hard to see at first, but yet we couldn't stop watching.
@onewing Thank you. I am going to try to stick to posting the photo on the day , but when i have two favorites in the same day, maybe I will have to bend the rules a little.
