Sheila's cottage, Ulva by callymazoo

Sheila's cottage, Ulva

Sheila was a long time resident of this tiny island. She continued to live in this cottage after her son died, eking a living by collecting whelks off the shoreline. The cottage is sparse with a tiny shuttered box bed. Sheila was known for her unusual habit of putting a whole tree branch/log into the fire and gradually feeding it in as it burnt. The long part sticking out was used for her to hang her clothes to dry. Eventually she became too old to live here and had to move off the tiny island. I like how the roof was held down by boulders holding the netting down. Not being a thatch roof connoisseur I do not know if this is the norm or a practical windy island solution.
Looks like Sheila lived a very simple life. Nice shot of her old cottage.
