My mother-in-law gave me this iris the summer before she passed away. It has a magnificent large bloom with beautiful contrasting colors and a very ruffly edge. But if the weatherman is correct (and I hope he isn't) snow is possible here on Monday. I'm afraid my irises, peonies, roses, poppies, and lilies may all be in danger of damage. I will cover what I can and hope it isn't as cold as predicted. OH MY... a closer examination of this photograph shows that I have pink aphids....... aarg!
Oh no .. who wants more snow this time of the year!! Hope it misses you. I used to use a solution of "soapy water" on aphids and it worked for me. Have you ever tried that, Cathy! Of course, I don't want to be giving you bad advice here, so do ask the experts!! :) AND I LOVE this gorgeous flower ... I can see that the colors will be stunning.
Cathy you sound as sentimental about your flowers as I am! I have so many flowers that have been given to me and each year I remember that person whenever the flowers arrive. To me it's such an exciting time. This is just lovely and I hope you'll post a picture of it in full bloom.
@karenann I looked up some 'solutions' to the aphid problem online and soapy water is one... since you had good luck with it, I will certainly give it a try! Thanks for the tip!
@cindymc I guess I am... I have my husband's great-grandmother's rose bush, too. Cindy, if it survives this 'blackberry winter' (you are probably one of the few on here familiar with that term) I will post a photo!
