My husband and I climbed to the old fire tower this morning. The view is vast from the pinnacle. It had been more than 30 years since we had hiked up there... I have obviously aged since the last trip! Today's subject for the August Photo a Day is landscape.
@cheribug Thank you! @maggiemae it wasn't too far, but very steep and huge boulders to climb over... we found another trail down, longer, but not so steep! Hang gliders depart from here... it is high up! I can't imagine how they get their gear up there! @soboy5 Thanks so much!!! @jgpittenger Appreciate your view and comments, Jane! @sailingmusic Thanks, Myrna! No it is not along the Appalachian Trail, but part of the Appalachian, Blue Ridge Range. @cindymc Cindy, the Mendota Fire Tower is between Washington County and Russell County in Southwest Virginia. It is unmarked and you just have to know it is there. Plenty of graffiti artists and beer drinkers know where it is! Luckily we had the place to ourselves this morning!
