Known as “Just Jane”. East Kirkby very own Lancaster Bomber, which over a number of years has been restored to the point where she can taxy but isn’t yet deemed sufficiently airworthy to take off, but that is the eventual aim. I know I have clipped the left wing slightly, but was pleased with the slight motion blur on the propellers of all four engines!
Great seeing this plane which my father flew in during the war. He was a navigator during WW2, survived 30 sortes then died at 57…..nice to see the scale with the tractor there.
You don't really comprehend the size of the plane until you think about the size of the tractor. Yes, full wing could be better, but the contrast of the tractor to the plane and the whirling propellers are what make this shot interesting.
Fav. A beauty gorgeously captured. I think there was a squadron of these aircraft stationed in Malta just after WWII. I have mixed memories of these airplanes when I was a very small boy.
