In the early 1900's,there were more than 2,000,000 Shire horses in the U.K.By the 1960's,there were only about 2,000,having been superseded by the tractor and other mechanical machines.
THE HORSE by Roland Duncan
Where in this wide world can
man find nobility without pride,
friendship without envy or beauty
without vanity? Here, where
grace is laced with muscle and
strength by gentleness confined.
He serves without servility; he has
fought without enmity. There is
nothing so powerful, nothing less
violent, there is nothing so quick,
nothing more patient.
England’s past has been borne on
his back. All history is his
industry; we are his heirs, he
our inheritance.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs, always much appreciated.
Wow! This horse is really decked out. I don't anything about Shire horses, and I thought it was a Clydesdale. They must have stoped breeding them for the number to go down so much. It a impressive capture. Fav
