Beacon Hill is the second highest point in the Cotswolds. Rising 312 metres above sea level, the hill was a natural place from which to send long-distance signals and was used for this purpose to pass on warnings across the country ,beacon to beacon.Nowadays the beacons are lit on significant occasions.
When I see a beacon like this, it always makes me think of what they were originally used for, like warnings of invasion. Nowadays lit for more pleasant occasions.
Very nice capture and story. Malta is surrounded by watch towers which were intended to send signals all around Malta when pirate or enemy ships are seen coming in Malta's direction.
