Strasbourg

Day Three: Sunday 18th August
Lunch stop in Strasbourg

We needed somewhere to stop en route from Trier to the Schwarzwald and on a whim, we decided to divert into Strasbourg for lunch. We had never been there before and knew nothing about the city except its name and that it is one of the seats of the European Parliament.

Close to the German/French border, it is a city of strong influences of both countries and is in the former Alsace region, the mighty River Rhine forming the border to the east. But this historic part of the city is on the Grande Île on the River Ill and is pictured here.

The quarter is named Petite France and it is a beautiful area of the city, very picturesque and filled with wonderful traditional timbered buildings and striking Gothic churches.

We found a lovely restaurant here that served Alsace Tarte Flambée, an exceptionally thin kind of pizza covered in cheeses and vegetables. Absolutely delicious!

We decided we would like to return to Strasbourg and explore it further another time if we can. A lovely find.
Beautiful capture of charming buildings and architecture! fav
