In 1942 duke Ercole1st Este wanting to make Ferrara the most modern of all European cities invited the Jews fleeing Spain to come here to find a hospitable new homeland and enrich it with their talents. At that time this Synagogue was built and remained splendid until 1944 when it was destroyed by the nazifascists. This is the remaining building, no longer dedicated to the religious rites.
@peadar Thank you Peter. Yes, you are right, the atmosphere in the book is similar to this one. Not by chance. This is the area of the Ghetto, where most Jews used to live before being exterminated by the Nazis. There is still one Synagogue not far for the small remaining community
Love the street light. It lights just enough of the image to allow some detail on the brickwork while also keeping an air of mystery to the scene. I mean . . . anything could be lurking in those shadows ;) ;) Excellent night shot :)
