Explanation requested

This morning I went into this church to take a picture of a beautiful organ built in the 1500's. I had a tripod and I believe I have kept everything still. However there are these strange light trails and a beautifully coloured bow connecting the two windows. Can any of the expert 365ers make an hypothesis on what happened? thank you
Boy, this is interesting. I've never seen anything like this before. I could get a coloured rainbow starburst of light from the bright windows, but they do seem to link together. As for the light trails . . . who knows? I hope someone on here does.

@paul10 What about ghosts, Paul?

Amazing. Did you inadvertently take an image while putting the camera on the tripod? That would explain the light trails, but as to the lovely ‘rainbow’, I have no idea. A fav as it’s a really intriguing image.

@caterina Well I did think that :)

@dide I don't think I did and in any case I only took one picture. There is no shaking in the organ. Thank you for your attempt. and your fav!

This is really cool! I have no suggestion as to where the light effects came from, sadly.

I really like this, Fav. No idea how you did it but it seems like a blur of the colours from the windows, but I'll go with your theory. It is nearly Halloween after all :-)

Intriguing indeed. I have nothing to offer, as I am still learning. Church ghosts and spirits did cross my mind too.

Oh I do hope the light trails are ghosts

I can't help but it's made for a very unusual photograph ..

I don't think I can explain it fully. 4sec exposure is really long, this explains the movement. What the source is I hesitate to speculate!!!

The only possible explanation, if you did indeed keep your camera still, would be a haunting. We don't have 15 th Century organs or anything else around here, so I am no expert. But it seems as if a spirit somehow trapped within this church might be ttrying to pass from this world to the next. Or else, if one took a very long exposure and then shone a flashlight moving it about, that might explain some of the effects. However, I have no idea about the light curving from window to window. A very cool effect. But just to be on the safe side, have you considered calling an exorcist?

@mbrutus thank you for your comment. I can guarantee that there was nobody inside the church with a flashlight. In fact there was nobody, except a middle aged man waiting for Mass. so I have no explanation for the trails, unless prayers leave a trail while going up to their destination. For the arched lights from the windows I'm expecting an answer from my nephew who's a physicist of light. If HE doesn't know nobody will. However the shape must have something to do with coloured light, given the fact that the rainbow is, appropriately, a bow. Or an arc en ciel as the French say. In Italian it is called arcobaleno to stress its transitory quality. I will try to go back and take another picture, but it's not easy because that church is closed most of the time.

@caterina I had only seen this photo on my phone until now. Great photo. Even better when seen larger. Very cool effects. Here are a few thoughts. Do you happen to have very large fireflies in Italy. Ask your cousin Vito, the ornithologist. ( Surely, you must have one.) Is everyone a genius in your family? Doctors... Physicists... Probably ornithologists. Don't you have any dummies or underachievers in your family, like the rest of us. I have one cousin who drives for Uber and another who ran away with the circus. Makes for much better stories. And the reason that the church is so seldom open probably has to do with the fact that it is so often closed for exorcisms. Just a few thoughts to share with you.

Wowy, cool, strange and intriguing pic. Fav :-)
I'm looking forward to the explanation of your nephew!

It is interesting and I want to go back and try again with different exposure and times. @stimuloog. My nephew thinks that since I let the camera in autofocus she tried to focus repeatedly during the 4" exposure, creating the strange effects. Not very clear to him either. However he says that only if I now can speak fluent aramaic he will buy the ghost theory! I have a new theory myself. The other day, while driving in the car I had the feeling of a sharp light coming from the left. It was the sun reflecting on my wristwatch. It could be that the same happened in the church and that the light from the watch reflected on the ceiling and in front of the organ and given the long exposure made those trails. Sorry for the long explanation, but I have been thinking about it

@mbrutus No ornithologists, sorry. But two botanists, and assorted surgeons. No one ever left with the circus. I know, I could write the novel of my life with a Uber driver, but no such luck.

And he blew threw 15 to 20 million dollars two wives, a dozen classic cars, a boat and god knows what BEFORE he became an Uber driver. What a dickhead.

@caterina Yeah, your wrist watch theory sounds logical to me!
