This is probably one of the most ancient collection of all the gospels being writen by hand on parchment (sheep's skin), in the VI century, with powder of gold and silver. The first page was written in gold while the remaining pages with silver, but the name of Jesus was written in gold throughout.
The purpura was obtained from the secretion of certain mollusks and it could be used only with the emperor's permission. The colour is the symbol of the blood shed by Christ for the salvation of humanity and also and foremost is the symbol of the imperial power. This manuscript is preserved with many others in the Biblioteca Capitolare in Verona, the most ancient library still in activity
