The three domes of St Mark by caterina

The three domes of St Mark

The Cathedral of St Mark, the main church in Venice, was built in in 828, when Venetian merchants stole the supposed relics of Mark the Evangelist from Alexandria. Its present form goes back to 1100. It is an example of Byzantine architecture. It lies at the eastern end of the Piazza San Marco, adjacent and connected to the Doge's Palace.
How brilliant to see St Marks like this - no tourists, just a beautiful composition highlighting the phenomenal architecture and details. :)
